Essential Phone gets OTA update with September Security patch

The Essential Phone is getting a new software update along with the September Security patch. The phone has just been shipped to pre-order customers and this might be the first update they see. Although there was one update before this, but it was for review units. The update arrives on the eve of the phone’s debut with carrier Sprint stores in the US.

The new update comes with build number NMI64C. And you won’t see any changes in the Android version 7.1.1 Nougat. The lightweight OTA has a size of 175 MB. Apart from the September security patch that fixes vital Blueborn vulnerabilities, it also improves the UX. Users will see better stutter-free scrolling in apps and settings.

If some of you out there want a quick fix of the Blueborn bug, they can search for the OTA manually by going to the Settings > About phone > System. Essential has promised quick OS updates but it is a bit too early for Android Oreo. As no non-Google device has received it yet.
