Samsung Today unveils its 1st set of UFS memory card. The First Set of UFS memory cards includes the 256, 128, 64 and 32 gigabytes (GB) cards. It is based on the JEDEC Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 1.0 Card Extension Standard, for use in high-resolution mobile shooting devices such as DSLRs, 3D VR cameras, action cams and drones.

“Our new 256GB UFS card will provide an ideal user experience for digitally-minded consumers and lead the industry in establishing the most competitive memory card solution, By launching our new high-capacity, high-performance UFS card line-up, we are changing the growth paradigm of the memory card market to prioritize performance and user convenience above all.” – said Jung-bae Lee, senior vice president, Memory Product Planning & Application Engineering, Samsung Electronics

The Universal flash storage(UFS) memory cards works as fast as the SSD storage in the computers. You can read a 5 GB movie in 10 seconds, or shoot and write to it RAW photos in sequential bursts. Samsung measures 530 MB/s sequential read speeds and  170 MB/s write speeds of UFS memory Cards.

Sadly, these new cards might not be compatible with any existing device in the market today. Samsung does say that the memory cards are ideal for “high resolution shooting devices” and mentions devices like DSLRs, VR cameras, and drones. But there may be a chance that Galaxy Note 7 becomes the first smartphone to gets the compatibility of UFS cards as it is up for Launch in few weeks. However, Samsung did not reveal the pricing of these UFS Cards.

  • The real question is: does it work with the current smartphones with the actual Micro SDCard slot even they have dofferent technologies?
And I'm afraid about the price, I hope it is affordable especially for the 256GB one?
