Xiaomi launches Mi Box 4 and 4c powered by “Android Marshmallow”

The last Android TV box(es) from the house of Xiaomi were Mi Box 3/3c. Now, the Chinese vendor has renewed the Box series by unveiling Mi Box 4 and 4c. With renewed chipset and more RAM, the brand new Android TV boxes however runs the outdated Android Marshmallow alike their predecessor.

The higher-end Mix Box 4 packs 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It’s also got USB 2.0 OTG support for expanding the storage. The chipset employed is an Amlogic S905L which’s got some handful of new capabilities compared to its older iterations. Comprising of quad Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 2.0GHz and a Mali-450 GPU the chipset, as claimed by Xiaomi is perfect for gaming.

The Box 4 is capable of 4K video decoding at up to 60fps (for HEVC/h.265 files), as an icing on cake, HDR10 support provides seamless visual quality. Moreover, DTS and Dolby Digital Plus ensure high-quality audio.

The lighter variant Mi Box 4c model packs almost all features available on the Box 4. However, 1GB of RAM, lack of bluetooth and Dolby etc. are what makes the 4c different from its larger sibling.

As far as the availability is considered, the Mi Box 4 and 4c will be hitting Chinese shelves starting from February 1. The Box 4 is priced at CNY 350 ($55/€45) while the 4c model costs CNY 250 ($40/€32).
