Leak: OnePlus working on a phone without Snapdragon SoC

From OnePlus One to the OnePlus 9, the company has relied on Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. Reportedly, the Chinese giant will use MediaTek processor for the first time, and now there’s another source that confirms the news leaked.

Must see: OnePlus will no more support 5G bands for OnePlus 9 in future

Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station claims that OnePlus is preparing a device with a Dimensity 1200 chipset (MT6893). Maybe it’s the OnePlus Nord 2, though this is not yet sure. For now, this is the only information we have in our hands.

The new device with the MediaTek chipset would be a fine update over the current Snapdragon Chipset present in OnePlus Nord. However, the Dimensity 1200 packs an octa-core CPU (four Cortex-A78 cores, four Cortex-A55 cores), a maximum refresh rate of 168Hz, software-driven ray tracing support, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, and 5G+5G dual-SIM support. Additionally, you would get an exciting photo/video experience on paper, as chipset features support for 200MP shots, “staggered” 4K HDR video recording, and AV1 decoding.

Moreover, the new MediaTek SoC-powered OnePlus device will have no mmWave support due to hardware constraints. Whereas the Dimensity 1200 uses the same Mali-G77 MP9 GPU as last year’s Dimensity 1000 series.
