Google acknowledges weird spam issue that affected some GMail users

Yesterday, certain users have reported an anomaly on their GMail accounts. Such that the accounts appear to be sending out dozens of spam all automatically without the owners knowledge. Literally, the issue  boggled the affected users much as their Sent folder is filled with messages that they have never even send. Ultimately, Google has responded to the issue and assured the users of a plausible solution soon.

In a statement given to source, the search-giant had clarified the following things:We are aware of a spam campaign impacting a small subset of Gmail users and have actively taken measures to protect against it. This attempt involved forged email headers that made it appear as if users were receiving emails from themselves, which also led to those messages erroneously appearing in the Sent folder. We have identified and are reclassifying all offending emails as spam, and have no reason to believe any accounts were compromised as part of this incident. If you happen to notice a suspicious email, we encourage you to report it as spam. More information on how to report spam can be found by visiting our Help Center”.

With the above statement, it’s clear that some sort of forging has been done by the spammers to bypass the Google’s advanced spam filters. While there is no worry of compromise in users data. The issue as such is quite alarming and hence should be soon phased out. Let us believe in Google and its clever algorithms that always have done a great job in keeping such type of fraudulent behaviors away from us to a far extend.

Well, if you’re one among the affected parties, then don’t forget to tag them as spam.
