Google’s Motorola to be Approved By US Justice Department Next Week

The href=”http://www.justice.gov/” rel=”homepage” target=”_blank” title=”United States Department of Justice”>U.S. Department of Justice is poised to approve Google Inc.’s $12.5 billion acquisition of href=”http://www.motorola.com/” rel=”homepage” target=”_blank” title=”Motorola Mobility”>Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. As early as next week, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

If approved by regulators, the acquisition of Libertyville, Illinois-based Motorola Mobility will give Google more than 17,000 patents for mobile-phone technology.

On the other hand, European Union regulators are also scheduled to rule on the acquisition. They would either clear the deal or open an in-depth enquiry, which can take upto 90 days.

These approvals are very necessary for the Google-Motorola deal and any issues will hinder the acquisition.
