Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus launched in India

Sony has launched two new budget-centric smartphones to the worlds most lucrative and emerging smartphone market. Today, the Japanese firm officially announced Sony Xperia R1 and its plus sized variant Xperia R1 Plus exclusively for India.

Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus all most similar in specs sheet and only differ in terms of storage option. The former holds a price tag of Rs. 12,990 and the latter is worth Rs. 14,990. Both of them will be put for sale starting from November 10 on various stores across the country.

The Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus features 5.2-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) TFT LCd displays. The phone powers by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. The devices are dual-SIM supported. Both of them house 13MP rear camera with autofocus, Exmor Sony sensor, and LED flash. On the front lies an 8MP camera. They are backed by a 2620mAh and can be recharged via USB Type-C port. Connectivity options include GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, 4G with support for LTE Cat. 4, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi.

Speaking of the difference, the smaller Xperia R1 packs 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, whereas the Xperia R1 Plus bundles an upgraded 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM.

Both brothers run on Android Nougat out-of-the-box. Well, a planned upgrade to Android Oreo is confirmed for the handsets.

As per Sony the devices are specially designed for Indian lifestyle and to excite Indians. Clearly, by saying so the vendor tends to grab the emotional attraction of Indians. Nonetheless, it’d not be easy for the handsets to perform well, where the Chinese brands have already established dominance in budget-segment.
