ARCore 1.6 adds support for Huawei P20 Lite and Galaxy A3 (2017)

Google ARCore and Google Camera are the two marvels of the Android apps. The latter is however restricted to Google devices, but the ARCore is something that can be enjoyed on wide variety of compatible non-Google devices. A new updated ARCore v1.6 is here with certain improvements and added support for two new devices.

The ARCore, in case if you don’t know, is Google’s platform for building augmented reality experiences. It’s worth appreciation that the platform has evolved a lot ever since its release early this year. By now, the ARCore supports around 250 devices from different manufacturers including Pixel and Nexus devices and still expanding. The latest devices to join the ARCore family are Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) and Huawei P20 Lite.

Google has totted a few but noteworthy changes with the new ARCore 1.6. The latest update features more realistic lighting to virtual environments and objects. Sceneform (the 3D rendering library for Java) optimizes ambient light to neutral and white giving a real-world touch to the contents.

This time around, Sceneform is also getting some developer-centric features such as screen capture and recording tools. It’s a perk for Developers allowing to capture or record the stills during app development and share easily on social media.
