Google Maps update highlights locations, gives them new icons and colours

Google is updating the look and feel of the Maps app with UI changes to different sections. The stable update aims to de-clutter the amount of info on the maps to highlight what matters more. Following that direction, users will see changes in the navigation screen, transit and explore screens as well. Moreover, the change is enhanced by new colours and icons that are specific to certain locations.

With regards to the first change, Google will highlight specific locations depending on the page you are in. For example, the transit page puts more focus on transport-related locations. The navigation page brings petrol stations to the fore and likewise.

As to the second change, you will find railway stations have a specific colour and icon. Hospitals have a specific colour and icon and so on. The update will hit users in the coming weeks and the change will be visible not only in the app but also in Google Assistant, Search and Android Auto.
