Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Demoed At CES 2013 [Video]

As we all know what Corning Gorilla Glass is and what it do for our smartphone and mobiles displays. Yesterday Corning announced its Gorilla Glass 3 at CES 2013 which is better than Gorilla Glass 2 and other competitors around. The new glass, which is simply being called Gorilla Glass 3 has reduced scratches and increased in strength. It can withstand greater impact force, is harder to scratch, and can stand up to forces that are capable of denting equally-thick steel.

Gorilla Glass 3 has been improved at the molecular level, incorporating a proprietary feature called Native Damage Resistance (NDR). According to Corning, NDR reduces the propagation of flaws, the appearance of scratches and does a better job of maintaining the overall retained strength of the glass. As a result, GG3 claims a three-fold improvement in scratch resistance, 40 percent reduction in the number of visible scratches and 50 percent boost in retained strength after the glass becomes flawed.

The company demonstrated just how strong its Gorilla Glass 3 really is by dropping a 130-gram ball on to it from different heights to see if it would break. Here’s Demo via Mobilnations:

And Here’s official video comparing Gorilla Glass 2 and other competitors with new Gorilla Glass 3. Testing conditions are: According to the test, Gorilla Glass 2 starts to scratch at 1.12lb/0.5kg of pressure, while the Gorilla Glass 3 is seen effortlessly withstanding pressure of as much as 1.8lb/0.8kg.
