Huawei launches the Huawei Watch 3 Series at £349.99

After a long debacle from full-fledged smartwatches, Huawei has finally returned to the market. While the brand did launch a few watches under the GT moniker, it has been around 4 years since it launched the Huawei Watch 2 back in 2017. In a launch event today, Huawei launched the Harmony OS 2 alongside the Watch 3 Series. To recall, Huawei was banned from using Google Services. As a result, it started working on its homegrown OS named Harmony OS. The Watch 3 Series consists of the Huawei Watch 3 and Huawei Watch 3 Pro. Both siblings are quite similar, with the main distinctions being in the build of the two watches. Both these watches will be available for purchase in China as well as some European markets and the UK.

Huawei Watch 3

Huawei has opted for a circular dial for the Huawei Watch 3. It houses a 1.43″ curved AMOLED display with a resolution of 326ppi. In theory, outdoor usage shouldn’t be an issue as the peak brightness of this display is 1000 nits. For ease of navigation, Huawei has provided a dedicated physical 3D crown. According to the company, this crown can sense different levels of pressure and respond accordingly. All this is housed in a ceramic and stainless steel casing. The Huawei Watch 3 weighs 54 grams (excluding the strap).

Being a full-fledged smartwatch, Huawei has equipped both the watches with eSIM and LTE support with voice calling support. As mentioned earlier, these watches run Huawei’s homegrown HarmonyOS 2.0. The watch ships with Huawei’s App Gallery, enabling users to install HarmonyOS supported applications to their smartwatches. Huawei has provided the watch with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.

Coming to fitness and tracking, the brand has equipped these smartwatches with a SpO2 monitor, heart rate sensor, skin temperature monitor, ambient light sensor among others. The watch has over 100 inbuilt sports modes. The watch can also track the user’s sleep and stress levels. It comes with an inbuilt GPS to track outdoor runs independently.

Coming to the battery life, Huawei claims a battery life of up to 3 days in smart mode, and up to 14 days in ultra-long battery-saving mode. The watch can be charged wirelessly.

Huawei Watch 3 Pro

Huawei Watch 3 Pro is identical to Huawei Watch 3 in almost all aspects except building and finish. Huawei Watch 3 Pro opts for more premium materials such as a mix of titanium and ceramic for its casing. It is also claimed to have a longer battery life of up to 5 days in smart mode and up to 21 days in long battery-saving mode. All these lead to a slightly heavier weight of 63g (excluding the straps) for the Huawei Watch 3 Pro.

Pricing and Availability

For strap options, there are a few different options to choose from – Active (rubber strap), Classic (leather strap), Elite (Metal strap). However, the Huawei Watch 3 Pro would be available only in the Classic and Elite flavors.

The Huawei Watch 3 Series will go for sale in UK and China on 18th June and 11th June, respectively. In the UK, the Huawei Watch 3 starts at £349.99 (~$495) while the Huawei Watch 3 Pro would retail for £499.99 (~$708) (starting from 28th June).

In China, the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro starts at CNY 2599 (~$407) and CNY 3299 (~$517) respectively. Do let us know what you think about these watches in the comments.
