Redmi 7A launched alongside Redmi K20 Pro for a mere $79

Redmi, Xiaomi’s sub-brand focussed on budget smartphones held a launch event in China for the most-awaited Redmi K20 Pro. But as suggested a month ago, Redmi didn’t only announce the said smartphone. Rather three additional devices were launched including the regular Redmi K20, RedmiBook (Windows laptop), and Redmi 7A which starts at $79.

The all-new Redmi 7A is the successor to the last year’s Redmi 6A which for the first time in the series featured a MediaTek SoC – Helio A22. But this time around, the company decided to go with Qualcomm for Redmi 7A like previous iterations. Thus, it is powered by the Snapdragon 439 processor like the new Nokia 4.2. It will be available in three storage variants, one with 2GB RAM / 16GB ROM, another with 2GB RAM / 32GB ROM, and the last one will come with 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM. There’s also support for microSD card to expand storage up to 256GB.

On the front, the Redmi 7A sports a 5.45 inches HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) LCD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. As for cameras, it comes with a single 13MP snapper at the back and a 5MP shooter for selfies in the front. The phone is backed by a massive 4,000 mAh battery and runs MIUI 10 based on Android Pie out of the box. Though it comes with a headphone jack, the Redmi 7A still doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor or USB type-C like its predecessors.

However, the price of Redmi 7A is what makes it interesting and appealing to the masses. It costs only 549 Yuan for the base variant which roughly translates to $79 or ₹5,530 and goes up to 799 Yuan ($116 / ₹8,050) for the highest variant. It only comes in two colour options – Black and Blue which is not bad for a smartphone at this price.
