In Europe, Samsung could be fined $15 Billion (10% revenue of 2012) for trying to ban Apple iPhone and other Apple Products In Europe. According to The Guardian the European commission could impose $15 Billion Fine over its attempts to use its “standard-essential” patents on 3G to ban sales of Apple’s iPhone and iPad in Europe.
Apple had offered to license the relevant patents in the past, the commission noted, but it was unable to strike an agreement with Samsung. At the time Samsung said, “Samsung remains committed to licensing our technologies on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms, and we strongly believe it is better when companies compete fairly in the marketplace, rather than in court. In this spirit, Samsung has decided to withdraw our injunction requests against Apple on the basis of our standard essential patents pending in European courts, in the interest of protecting consumer choice.”
