Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier Launched

Its that time of the year again when we are introduced to an array of new devices. The Galaxy Note7 was recently unveiled, the iPhone 7 and the LG V20 are due soon but that’s not all. Smartphones are not the only devices we’re getting this season. One of the most anticipated smartwatches of the year, the Samsung Gear S3 was recently unveiled in two variants: the Gear S3 Frontier and the Gear S3 Classic. The smartwatch was teased in Samsung’s IFA invite.

Both the watches sport similar specs with the difference being in the band they come with and the color. The Classic variant comes in Silver color with leather bands while the Frontier variant is painted black with rubber bands for a sportier look. Another difference between the 2 is connectivity option: frontier gets the 3G/LTE option while the classic variant is stuck with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth when it comes to connectivity.

The Gear S3 has upgraded quite a lot as compared to its predecessor, the Gear S2. For starters, you have a bigger screen at 1.3″, 46 mm diameter and 16 million colors. In comparison, the S2 could only manage 8 million colors. The S2 was also smaller in size which is why Samsung has decided to continue retailing it for those of you who prefer the small smartwatch.

Another feature that debuted on the Gear S3 is Samsung Pay via both, NFC and MST. The watch is IP68 rated with a stainless steel body and a Gorilla SR+ glass which Samsung claims is as tough as sapphire.

There is no news on the new smartwatch’s availability or pricing yet. All we know is “Q4”, so we have a long way to go.
