Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max debut in China with premium design at affordable price

After many leaks and teasers, Honor finally unveils the Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max as expected in China. This is the first time ever the Honor X series is getting a Max edition and a glass back design. According to the company, the Max edition is a media consumption device. And thus it is targeted at customers who crave for a bigger display, a long-lasting battery and stereo speakers.

Honor 8X Specifications

The Honor 8X features a 6.5-inch FHD+(1080 x 2340 pixels) display with 19:5:9 aspect ratio due to the notch. Under the hood, it is powered by Kirin 710 which debuted on the Huawei Nova 3i. It runs on EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. But sadly, it comes with a micro USB port which merely supports 5V/2A charging. However, the battery is decent at 3,750 mAh

As for cameras are concerned, the Honor 8X comes with dual 20MP and 2MP sensors on the back and a single 16MP shooter at the front. The device also supports GPU Turbo technology for better performance. Lastly, the Honor 8X with 4GB/64GB, 6GB/64GB, and 6GB/128GB RAM/storage configurations are priced at RMB 1399, RMB 1599 and RMB 1899 respectively.

Honor 8X Max Specifications

The Honor 8X Max comes with a massive 7.12-inch FHD+(1080 x 2244 pixels) display with a water-drop notch. It will come in two variants, the base variant will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, whereas the higher variant will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. Other features include stereo speakers and a mammoth 5,000 mAh battery with support for 9V/2A fast charging.

As for optics, it features the same rear camera setup as the Honor 8X(16MP + 2MP). But, the front camera is lower at 8MP compared to 16MP on the former. It runs on EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo with GPU Turbo. The Honor 8X Max is priced at RMB 1499 and RMB 1799 for the 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB variants (Snapdragon 636) respectively. There’s no word on Snapdragon 660 variant, but it is expected to go on sale in October.

The Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max will be sold in several other markets in the coming months like any other Honor X series phones.
