How to fix Nexus 6P microphone issue

Huawei Nexus 6P which was launched in 2015 was the last ever Nexus flagship. Later, next year the whole Nexus lineup was replaced by Google’s Pixel lineup touting the slogan ‘MadeByGoogle’. There are many reasons why there is problem with the microphones of Nexus 6P. The most common is the blockage of microphones due to dust and improper designed cases. Lets take a detailed look at those various reasons for microphone issue in the Nexus 6P.

How to Fix Nexus 6P microphone issue

1. Improper Cases and Covers

Like any other smartphone, Nexus 6P comes with two microphones, one at the bottom and another one at the back below the camera. Thus, you should check the cases and covers you buy twice for improper design. Make sure you use the cases or covers with proper cut outs for microphones.

2. Dust Particles

As days go by, dust particles get filled in the holes of microphones. Thus, remove those dust regularly with a help of sharp objects like needle. Also, be careful and gentle while using sharp materials as might not want to damage the microphones completely.

3. Software Issue

Some units of Nexus 6P may have problems in noise cancelling as reported by several users. This can be fixed by clearing the cache partition of the device. To do so, you have to first boot the device into recovery mode.

  • Switch off your Nexus 6P.
  • Then, turn it on by pressing Volume Down key and Power key simultaneously.
  • Once the screen turns on, press the Volume down key to enter the Recovery Mode.
  • Now, navigate to wipe cache partition by using Volume keys as touch do not work here.
  • Use Power key to select wipe cache partition and Yes on the next screen.
  • That’s it. Reboot your Nexus 6P by pressing the Power Key for few seconds.

Only for Rooted Users

If the problem still persists after trying all the above methods, there’s one more thing you can do if your Nexus 6P is rooted. Open the build.prop using any root explorer and locate this line persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true . Once you find that line, change it to persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=false .
