Asus Zenfone 3 and Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom receiving update with bug fixes and improvements

Asus launches Zenfone 3 and Zenfone 3 Zoom to take on the mid level market. Today, Asus has issued an update to fix some bugs which were creating problems in the phone. The new build is now live for both the devices with various performance fixes and improvements.

The Zenfone 3 brings some changes to the Asus SystemUI and Asus Clock app along with some other improvements. In Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom packs some fixes for the camera app, WiFi hotspot and other bugs. Overall the bug fixes has led to better performance out of the device.

The updates can hit anytime for both the devices but it will take some time. So, you need to wait for sometime to get the updates, at least for a week.

Before starting to update your phone, make sure to back up your data and information in the PC. You need at least 50% charge before updating the phone.

HTC U11 exclusive HTC Link VR coming in Japan by June

People are fond of HTC products, particularly the design is hugely applauded by the users. It is one of the leading tech giant which has recently launched VR handset named HTC Link VR exclusively for the HTC U11.

The handset is going to be exclusive for the Japanese market. It supports head movement with six degrees-of-freedom which helps in tracking movements like the other headsets.

The VR headset has an external camera sensor which tracks the movement of motion. HTC Link uses the USB Type-C port which easily connects to the smartphones. It offers 90Hz refresh rate and has a display of 3.6-inch with 1080 x 1200 LCD display.

The HTC U11 doesn’t house in the HTC Link VR headset. Both, the sensor as well as the motion controllers come bundled with the HTC Link.

As the headset is only available to the Japanese market, it doesn’t come with the branding of Vive. This means there is no involvement of valve in developing the HTC Link.

This HTC Link will make its appearance in Japanese market by late July.

Samsung plays down the Galaxy S8 Iris Scanner flaw

Samsung’s tall claim that it’s iris scanner is “one of the safest ways to keep your phone locked,” and that it provides “air-tight security” has landed the company in troubled waters.

Soon after the new biometric security feature was launched, Some hackers over in Germany from the Chaos Computer Club(CCC) said that they had bypassed the new security feature implemented in the Samsung S8. The hackers displayed the whole procedure in a video which quickly started spreading on the Internet, forcing Samsung to issue a statement. Dirk Engling, a spokesman for CCC said: “The security risk to the user from iris recognition is even bigger than with fingerprints as we expose our irises a lot,”. Unfortunately, at that time Samsung simply said that they ” are looking into the matter and are aware of the issue”.

The hack which employed a photo shot in night mode from a medium distance with an infrared camera and a laser printer to print the image and lenses. The resulting photo image was put in front of the Samsung Iris scanner which was bypassed, as was seen in the video.
Samsung later issued a statement, saying “Although the one-minute video (that shows the sensor being fooled with a dummy eye) appears simple, it is hard to see that happening in real life,”.

It is clear Samsung isn’t denying the bypass but simply arguing that the threat of the hack is minimal in real life circumstances. The spokesman for CCC also said that it is best to use the old and traditional PIN or password to ensure added safety in the face of an effort to hack a phone.

Moto X Force starts getting Android 7.0 Nougat

Motorola is rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat no Moto X Force. The update comes along with the April’s Security patch with Nougat. The Nougat update is rolling out after the long wait for Moto X Force users.

The update includes all the goodies of Android Nougat. For example, New Multi-window allows the user to switch between apps with a double tap or run two apps side by side. More personalized settings and smarter notifications allow users to be more productive with less effort. It also includes the enhanced version of Doze.

Along with this the update is packed some other UI improvements and bug fixes in it. It is also packed with Android security patch for the month of April. As this is a large update company says that use Wifi network for downloading and charge your phone atleast up to 50% before start installing it.

The update is rolling out in patches and currently it is live in US only. It might take couple of weeks to reach India units. US users if does not get the update notification yet. you can check it manually by going through the settings>>about phone>>software update.

Mi Max 2 appears on Geekbench, likely to sport a Snapdragon 625 or 626

Ahead of the launch of the mi Max 2 phablet today, some interesting specs have shown up on the Geekbench database as part of its benchmarks. The huge 6.4-inch device is expected to be unveiled at an event in China.

Geekbench benchmarks usually don’t reveal all the specs but they do give a fair idea about the processors and RAM. Such is the case here. The Mi Max 2 is seen to be sporting a Qualcomm Octa-core processor. The SoC model number is shown to be MSM8953. Now we know very well that this model number belongs to the Snapdragon 625.

So, if the benchmarks have not omitted the last three letters at the end of ‘MSM8953’ it will be SD 625. Otherwise, it might end up to SD 626. Previously, other rumours have pointed out to the Mi Max carrying the SD 626. So that validates the suspicion.

Apart from the SoC, we know from the benchmarks that the Mi Max2 will have 4 GB of RAM. And it will run Android Nougat along with MIUI on top. What is interesting to know that Xiaomi might also take the wraps off MIUI 9 at the event as we recall the Mi Max was also the first to be created with MIUI 8 last year. But this is an assumption.

Mi Max 2 also appeared on GFXBench recently displaying the 1080p screen 18 GB of usable storage, a 12 MP rear camera as well as a 5 MP front camera.

T-Mobile to pay off the rest of your Pixel/Pixel XL if you switch from Verizon

In an announcement made earlier today, T-Mobile’s President and CEO, John Legere made an offer to Verizon Pixel or iPhone users to switch from Verizon to T-Mobile. If you choose to switch, T-Mobile will fully pay off whatever you owe on your Verizon Pixel or iPhone. This is a limited period offer which starts May 31, 2017, he added.

John Legere, targeted Verizon offering unlimited plans which resulted in slow networks for Verizon customers. The company specifically aimed Verizon customers who currently own a Google Pixel/Pixel XL or iPhone. This is to note that Verizon is the exclusive carrier partner for the Pixel and Pixel XL in the United States.

Customers who plan to switch need not trade-in and will be free to keep their current phone with same number. The users just need to port their number to T-Mobile, insert a new SIM into their existing device, and they’re good to go. T-Mobile also lets you insure your current Pixel/Pixel XL or iPhone by paying $15/month for full device protection and security.

T-Mobile says that the outstanding payment will be sent to customers with a digital prepaid MasterCard, typically within 15 days. So the customers will receive their money to pay off the device on Verizon even before their carrier bill is due.

Facebook App gets updated with Trending section

Today, Facebook is one of the leading social networking websites worldwide. There may be many reasons for Facebook’s continued success over the past few years, one of them being, Facebook really knows what its users want. Therefore, the company keeps rolling out regular updates to keep your mobile app/desktop website more secure and up-to-date.

Facebook has now updated its mobile app with “Trending” section. This feature is already available for desktop for a while now. The Trending section displays a list of topics which are quite popular and being discussed on Facebook platform. These trending topics may vary for every individual/user based on pages you like, pages you visit regularly, your location and what’s new across entire Facebook.

In order to see the Trending topics on your mobile app, you need to tap on the search button. Facebook has categorized the Trending topics into five sections.

1. Articles: This section will show you the posts from organizations/businesses covering the story.

2. In the Story: In the Story section you would be able to see posts from people who are part of or involved in the story. If the story is about a vehicle launch, it will show an update from their official page.

3. Friends and Groups: If one of your Facebook friends has posted something about a trending story, you will be able to see it in this particular section. For example, if your favorite sports team has won a series and if your friends are posting about the same, you would be able to see that stuff.

4. Near the Scene: This section shows posts by the users who are near by location where some event occurred. For instance, if there is a live sport event in a sports stadium and users are posting pictures from that place, then it will be displayed under this section.

5. Live Feed: Live Feed will show you a running stream of reactions on the topic from people around the world.
