Xiaomi sold over 4 million smartphones during Diwali sales in India

This year in the festive season Xiaomi Diwali sale in India touched 4 Million units. Since Xiaomi entered the Indian market in the year 2014 with their then flagship Mi 3 . They changed the way Indian smartphone market used to work. They were also the one to introduce online flash sales in India. Since then, they saw success rather than failure for a new brand from China. Now, they are a household name in India though majority of Indians even do not know how to pronounce “Xiaomi”.

Xiaomi made another milestone during this year’s Diwali sales on Flipkart, Amazon and Mi.com. According to them, they sold over four million smartphones during September 20 to October 19.

It all started with Big Billion Days Sale on Flipkart and Great Indian Sale on Amazon. To recall, Xiaomi India’s best selling smartphone Redmi Note 4 was made available at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 10,999 for the 3GB / 32GB and 4GB / 64GB variants respectively. Thus, they provided Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,000 discounts on it. Next, the Redmi 4 was offered for Rs. 8,499 and Rs. 9,499 for the 3GB / 32GB and 4GB / 64GB providing discounts of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,500 respectively. Also, the Mix Max 2 offered on a discount of Rs. 2,000 on both the 4GB / 32GB and 4GB / 64GB which brought the price down to Rs. 12,999 and Rs. 14,999 respectively.

The e-commerce sites even offered some cash backs and free Hungama Music And Play subscription for 12 months and 3 months respectively. The price drops were same across all the sales including those special Diwali sales on e-commerce sites and Mi.com. The company also stated that they sold 300 smartphones per minute during this period. And they also mentioned that they were the no. 1 smartphone brand on both Amazon and Flipkart during the sales. They also sold more than 1 million products on mi.com itself. Now, that is a huge success for Xiaomi as they are now no. 2 smartphone brand in India just behind the Korean giant Samsung.

Xiaomi’s success is due to their budget to mid – range smartphones . But, now they are trying to capture the flagship segment by launching Mi Mix 2 in India. It is sure that Xiaomi will have a huge success in coming future regardless of the new comers at least in online part.
