Essential PH-1 likely to get Android Oreo update by December end

Following a handful of smartphone makers, Essential has just announced that Android Oreo is being baked for the PH-1 as we speak. The Andy Rubin company announced on Twitter that PH-1 owners will soon be able to taste Oreo “in the next couple months”. That means we can expect Android Oreo at least in at the end of 2 months by December.

The official statement comes after Essential’s VP of software also said the update should come in the next month or two. This makes us believe that the update might hit PH-1 units even before December. Now, one of the USP’s of the phone, when it was launched, was fast Android updates as promised by Andy Rubin. So far, the company seems to be true in its promise.

So, far, Other OEMs like Samsung are also reportedly prepping the Galaxy S8 for the Oreo update. Even Motorola has put up a shortlist of Android Oreo devices. But, what is most surprising is that this year Sony is poised to launch the Xperia XZ1 in India on September 25. As we know, the handset comes with Android Oreo out of the box. Invites to the event have already been sent. And it seems, Google might not be the first to ship Android Oreo this year with the Pixels.
