Google Announced Lollipop Update For Android One Phones

Google has announced the roll out of Android Lollipop update for Android One phones in India. Google’s Caeser Sengupta informed via a Google+ that the Android update will be pushed gradually to all Android One phones. However it is not clear that whether this update will be based on Android 5.1 or 5.0. Launches were recently made in Indonesia and Philippines and runs on Android 5.1.

Sengupta said that “To those with Android One phones in India, here’s where we are with the over-the-air (OTA) update that will bring Android Lollipop to you soon. We’ve already started rolling out Lollipop to a small number of phones in India. This is a gradual process and so each week we’ll push the OTA update to more phones selected at random (pro-tip: connecting over WiFi will increase your odds). We thank you again for your patience, and please stay tuned for further updates.”

Google had announced that the update will be released in the next few weeks. The Android One phones available in India include Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 phone, Karbonn Sparkle V and Micromax Canvas A1. Acer, Alcatel, Asus, HTC, Intex, Lava, Panasonic, Lenovo, Xolo and Qualcomm are also expected to join the Android One programme. Android Lollipop was the most ambitious release of the mobile operating system.

According to data released by Google, the Lollipop build powered just 1.6% of Android devices. Google tracked the data on Android devices for the week ending on February 2, 2015 while computing the statistics. It does not include the figures for Android versions that are on less than 0.1% of the devices tracked.
