MediaTek Helio G70 SoC brings gaming capabilities to budget phones

MediaTek is one of the oldest names in the chipset industry. A few years back, its mobile SoCs were found in most of the entry-level to mid-range smartphones but now, its chips power smart speakers and other related IoT products. However, the company made a come back last year with its Helio G90T SoC for smartphones, which happens to be present only in Redmi Note 8 Pro, even after months of release. On top of that, MediaTek now announces another SoC named Helio G70, which will be powering smartphones even cheaper than the previously mentioned device in the coming months.

It is an octa-core processor comprising of two Cortex A-75 cores clocked at 2GHz and six Cortex A-55 cores running at 1.7GHz. For graphics, it comes with Arm Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU clocked at 820MHz. Additionally, it features the company’s CorePilot and HyperEngine Game Technology to offer seamless gaming performance.

As for optics, the Helio G70-powered smartphones can include a dual 16MP + 16MP or a single 48MP primary camera setup. Other features of the SoC include support for dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, AI Face ID, Pump Express for fast charging, and Integrated VoW to minimize the usage of power using voice assistants.

The first smartphone to be powered by MediaTek Helio G70 could be the upcoming Redmi 9, which was leaked last month with an expected launch in Q1 2020.
