Nokia 8 could be the first smartphone to offer Android O

HMD Global has just unveiled Nokia 8 as its flagship device in a launch event held in London. The latest addition to Nokia’s portfolio offers top-notch specs that include 5.3-inch 2K LCD display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage. The smartphone sports dual 13-megapixel f/2.0 RGB and monochrome sensors on the rear with same 13-megapixel front-facing shooter. The device packs a 3,090 mAh battery and comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

While previous rumors suggested that the flagship device from Nokia could ship with Android O, the smartphone was unveiled running stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. In a statement, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas explained that “the company has avoided customization and bloatware to deliver the latest updates faster, he further added that “the company has plans to bring Android O to the flagship handset as soon as possible.”

Except Google Pixel smartphones and most recent line of Nexus devices, other OEMs take considerable time rolling out software updates and security patches to their devices. Nokia’s promise and commitment to bring fast updates could prove fruitful for the users.

While Google is yet to confirm official release date for Android O, at this time we could just hope that Nokia delivers on its promises and we see faster updates arriving on Nokia devices.
