Despite launching its latest flagship like devices – the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro with aggressive pricing as usual in India couple of days ago, not everyone seems to be satisfied with Redmi. A new petition filed on change.org urges Redmi to cut the price of the Redmi K20 mostly cause it comes with much lower base storage. For the unversed, the Redmi K20 is rated at INR. 21,999 in India, and the petitioner demands the price to be slashed by at least INR. 2,000.
The petition has garnered around 850 supporters so far, with the petitioner expecting it to reach the initial set goal of 1000 soon. The Redmi K20, unlike its bigger sibling the Redmi K20 Pro is powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 Mobile Platform. For the asking price, the device is indeed a value performer but as you can see some are not really convinced.
The petitioner demands the price to be lowered owing to the 6/64GB storage offered by the Redmi K20 at INR. 21,999 which for the petitioner is not satisfactory. Also, the petition highlights the lack of expandable storage which makes the 64GB too less for the Indians who always demand more. Of course the demand seems to be legit when we look at other Redmi devices which are priced way lower than the Redmi K20 but offers similar performance to the K20 and better storage option such as Redmi Note 7 Pro.
Seeing the backlash, Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Jain has commented on the subject justifying the price. As per him, the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro will be part of a different business model where these devices will not have ad-supported monetisation.
