Google Project Tango Launched: A 3D-Mapping Smartphone


Google launched a new project in order to help blind customers navigate the visible world or we can say which can see and feel environment like us. This Experimental Smartphone and developer kit incorporates 3D sensors able to map indoor and outdoor environments.

As according to Google the new Smartphone by a under Project Tango can calculate the size of rooms by just being moved around inside of them. Google describe it as a mapping tool, automatically capturing the world around each user to provide directions, dimensions, and environmental maps.  “The goal of Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion,” Google adds.

Google Project Tango Prototype Smartphone is of 5 inch as they said that “Our current prototype is a 5” phone containing customized hardware and software designed to track the full 3D motion of the device, while simultaneously creating a map of the environment,” Lee said.

Google is using Movidius’ Myriad 1 vision processor platform for Project Tango. Google Project Tango Smartphone run on customized Android version. Google is currently offering 200 prototype kits to developers.

In its announcement, Google asks: “What if you could capture the dimensions of your home simply by walking around with your phone before you went furniture shopping? What if directions to a new location didn’t stop at the street address? What if you never again found yourself lost in a new building?”
