LG stops providing security updates for LG G3, G4, G4 Stylus, CK, and Stylo

The South-Korean vendor, LG has now decided to provide no more software support for the LG G3, G4, G4 Stylus, CK and Stylo devices. Indeed, the news might be hard to digest for the users, as it marks an early end for the mid-2015 launched LG devices. After all, Google recommends a minimum 2 years of major version updates and 3 years of security updates for devices running Android.

Nevertheless, software updates are sole responsibility of OEM’s and they have the rights to amend them based on needs, though complying to policies. Quite often, most of the OEM’s follows Google’s policy as far as software updates are considered, unless they incur any issues by so.

Anyway, LG enlists following devices eligible for getting monthly security updates(september patch and above) on its updated security bulletin page.

  • G series (G5, G6)
  • V series(V10, V20, V30)
  • Q Series(Q6, Q8) , X Series(X300, X400, X500, X cam)

As you can see, the LG G3, G4, Stylus, CK and Stylo failed to maintain their places in the new list. As its result, the devices won’t be getting any further security updates. Literally, pushing them vulnerable to attacks. However, let us hope LG to change its decision and restart providing security update for the devices, at least for a couple of months more.

This is pretty saddening news for these device owners. We hope in future LG must provide updates for at least 2 years.
