Local Guides can now upload videos on Google Maps

Google might add video uploading capability to Local guides on Google Maps soon. The feature has been already unearthed by a teardown of the previous Google Maps v9.58 app. However, was not live, since Google didn’t initiate the server side push. But, now it seems the roll-out has started atleast for some of the users.local guides can now upload videos on google maps

At the same time, a post over Google’s Local Guide Connect Forum titled “Be the first to share video on Google Maps” encourages the guides to post their videos. It focus on providing the objectives that Google expects by introducing the video uploading feature. As well as an insight for the local guides in posting better and productive place videos.

Guides now can record and upload 10 seconds long video in-app(GMaps). Or otherwise could post up to 30 seconds clip if it’s recorded on another app and uploaded from gallery.

About this latest Google Maps add-on, the Google Moderator have to say this to us: As a Local Guide, you know that photos have the power to help people see the world and make decisions about where to go. But there’s a lot you can learn about a place by seeing it in motion. That’s why we’re introducing video on Google Maps.

Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier the feature is now limited to certain Android users and may require the latest Google Map v8.60. When it gets available for iOS or windows couterpart of the Google Maps is still unknown.

Android using Local Guides could post their videos by:
  • Search and select a place on Google Maps
  • Scroll down and tap “Add a photo”
  • Tap “Camera” and hold the shutter button for up to 10 seconds
  • Or in case, if you want to add existing videos. Tap “Folder” and select a video. Only the first 30 seconds of a video can be added

Note: Currently it is unclear, whether your uploaded videos will undergo review before it goes public. Mostly, it should happen as in the case of already existing image upload feature.
