OnePlus 9 series to run on Oppo’s ColorOS 11 in China

OnePlus 9 series will ship with ColorOS 11 in China. OnePlus runs two different yet similar Android Operating Systems Skins for its smartphones- HydrogenOS and OxygenOS globally. The only difference between the two operating systems is that OxygenOS does not include Google Apps and services.

OnePlus made an announcement earlier today that the OnePlus 9 series will run on Oppo’s ColorOS and not HydrogenOS. The Weibo post by the co-founder and CEO Pete Lau confirms the news. ColorOS is Oppo’s custom ROM and brands like Realme also incorporated ColorOS into their system. Later, it launched its own Realme UI skin with minor changes to the previous operating system.

OnePlus being the native brand of China will get a stable and smooth version of ColorOS. CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau wrote in his announcement that “the HydrogenOS of the past models will continue to be maintained and updated.” Whereas, the new flagships of OnePlus will now ship with ColorOS. OnePlus 9 series will be the first to run on ColorOS 11 out of the box.

The announcement also confirms that the official website of HydrogenOS in China is going to shut down. Also, OnePlus devices will now be available on Oppo’s official website in China.

OnePlus is set to release the OnePlus 9 5G, OnePlus 9 Pro 5G, and OnePlus 9R 5G tomorrow. The smartphones will come with a 4500mAh battery with 50W wireless charging support and will pack Snapdragon 888 SoC.
