A recent report suggests that Qualcomm is working on a series of mid-range processors to dominate the industry in the coming year. The company is planning to introduce multiple variants of Snapdragon 600 series, namely Snapdragon 635, Snapdragon 638, and Snapdragon 670 respectively. Mid-range devices constitute a major portion of Android smartphones sales worldwide. It is quite obvious for a company like Qualcomm to prepare well in advance for the future of the mid-range segment. On the other hand, the company is involved in the development of its next flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 845. At the same time, the mid-range processors that power a plethora of Android devices cannot be ignored.

According to reports, “Qualcomm is planning to introduce Snapdragon 638 processor alongside Snapdragon 635 SoC as successor to Snapdragon 630 whereas Snapdragon 670 will be the upgraded version of Snapdragon 660 SoC.” However, there is no official confirmation from the company about any of the upcoming chipsets.

Till date we have not seen many devices running Snapdragon 630 and 660 chipsets, which were introduced in mid-2017. The upcoming rumored processors might not go into mass production before Q1 2018. Therefore, it might take quite sometime for us to experience the future of mid-range chipsets.
