Verizon based Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra starts receiving January 2021 Security Patch Update

In the US, smartphone brands generally tie-up with network carriers. Under this partnership, OEMs sell carrier-locked devices at lucrative prices coupled with generous offers at carrier outlets. Samsung is no different and has partnered with various carriers such as Verizon for its flagship devices. Earlier this month, Samsung had announced that it will soon roll out the January update to several Galaxy devices. Now, Samsung’s flagship lineup from 2020 has started receiving the January ’21 Security Patch. The devices in question are the Verizon carrier locked Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra . The brand has started rolling out an OTA update with the latest security patch.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G Update

The January 2021 Security update to the Verizon locked Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G comes as firmware version RP1A.200720.012.G988USQU1CTLB. This update brings the January Security patch to the S20 Ultra 5G. According to the official changelog, the update also brings performance improvements to the device.

Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G Update

The Verizon based Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G has also started receiving the January 2021 Security update. The OTA update arrives as firmware version RP1A.200720.012.G986USQU1CTLB. It brings with it the latest January Android Security Patch. The official changelog is similar to S20 Ultra 5G and brings overall improvements to the device.

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G UW Update

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S20 5G UW also gets a similar update as it’s elder siblings. However, it gets a different firmware version named RP1A.200720.012.G981VSQU1CTLB. Just like the other two devices, the S20 5G UW is also updated to the January security patch with this update. According to Samsung, the rollout for January update for all three Verizon locked devices has begun officially on 21st January 2021.

As it is a phased roll-out, owners are advised to be patient for the update to arrive. It is also advised to sufficiently charge the device before starting the update process.
