Samsung officially unveils Galaxy Fold – the long-awaited foldable phone

Samsung has been working on a foldable smartphone for many years now. Finally, late last year at Samsung’s Developer Conference, the company showcased a prototype for the very first time. And now at the Galaxy Unpacked event, the world’s number one Android OEM officially unveils the Galaxy Fold. The company calls it a luxury device and it will be available from April 26 starting at a whopping $1,980.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with two displays – a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display with a resolution of 1536 x 2152 and a 4.6-inch smaller display with a resolution of 840 x 960. The larger display folds inwards rather than outwards like Xiaomi’s foldable phone. Samsung has implemented a hinge system with multiple interlocking gears for the folding mechanism. All these gears are well-hidden at the back of the device.

The first foldable phone from Samsung is powered by a 7nm processor coupled with 12GB RAM. Also, it features 512GB of internal which is of UFS 3.0 (Universal Flash Storage), also known as eUFS. The Galaxy Fold features two batteries (total capacity of 4,380 mAH) on either side of the fold. Interestingly, it comes with six cameras, three (16MP ultra wide + 12MP wide with OIS + 12MP telephoto) on the back, one (10MP selfie) on the front, and two (10MP selfie + 8MP RGB Depth) on the inside.

When in tablet mode (unfolded), the Galaxy Fold can run three apps in windows mode at a time. It also comes with a feature called ‘App Continuity’ which enables the user to continue using the app on the larger screen from where they left it on the smaller screen. The device will be available in four colors – Space Silver, Cosmos Black, Martian Green, and Astro Blue.

The pricing of the Galaxy Fold starts from $1,980 and it will be available from 26th April. It will be made available in both 4G and 5G variants.
