Sony has started rolling out the Android 11 update for Sony Xperia 5 ll in the U.S. The update was expected to release almost two weeks ago. The new update carries firmware version 58.1.A.3.87 and comes with February 2021 security patch.
Sony Xperia 1 ll received the Android 11 update in December. And now Xperia 5 and Xperia 5 ll are receiving the new update. The update is now available in many countries. And as per the reports, many other devices are to follow the up-gradation process. However, many XQ-AS52 devices and the XQ-AS62 variant of the Xperia 5 ll still run Android 10. The same goes for Xperia 1 ll.
As the Xperia 5 ll users are experiencing the new Android 11, mixed reactions are coming from the users. Some are quite happy with the update and revamp of the Assistant button, while some are quite unhappy with the latest Android OS update.
Issues with the update
The complaints are mostly about the quick settings panel and how it works, the revised power-button menu, et cetera. The split-screen feature is quite untidy as any notification can enter the mode. Also, the update seems to lack many Google features, such as Google Pay which is quite basic for any smartphone these days.
The Android 11 slows down the system more than Android 10. People are also complaining about the fast battery drain. There is a problem with Always on Display mode where the app icon of the particular notification does appear on the dedicated area unless the screen is lock and re-locked. Sony has not addressed this issue as of now.
All-in-all, the new Android 11 update does not bring major changes to Xperia devices. The changes brought along are quite minor, and we expect more from Sony.
