YouTube service restored on Amazon Echo Show after 2 months

Back in September, Amazon Echo Show users were dealt a blow when YouTube service was taken down from the touchscreen smart speaker. At that time Google only cited ‘terms of use violation’ as the cause of the move. As important as YouTube is for video content, the sudden takedown wasn’t taken well by Amazon.

Now, the service is back up. Sadly it is not the same as before, and it is likely to disappoint users. Earlier Echo Show would open a video in full-screen mode on-tap. While now, it is a browser interface and you have more taps to do to open a video in full-screen mode. Well, it’s not a deal breaker but Amazon Echo Show being primarily a voice-activated product we imagine taps are less welcome.

Amazon didn’t say anything about the change while they did say that support for more content is coming soon. “We’re excited to offer customers the capability to watch even more video content from sources such as Vimeo, YouTube, and Dailymotion on Echo Show.” the company said the Voicebot.
