Qualcomm To Unveil Snapdragon 660 SoC on May 9


Qualcomm is all set to launch it latest mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 660. Qualcomm has sent press invites for an event in China, which is scheduled to take place on May 9.

The Snapdragon 660 will be an octa-core processor built using the 14nm process and should find its way inside mid-to-high-end devices. Qualcomm’s current high-end chipset is the Snapdragon 835 built using the 10nm process. SD835 is already powering the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and is expected to be used in most flagships yet to release this year.

It’s obviously a mid-range chipset but it also comes with some level of optimization in performance and battery usage that will surely appeal to most average users in the market.

There are no specific details available about the processor as of yet. But the AnTuTu listing of an unknown device running the same processor revealed that Snapdragon 660 processor holds a great performance. The device got the 105,576 score on the AnTuTu benchmark. This score puts the device close to latest high-end flagships.

The Snapdragon 660 SoC may use a combination of four Cortex-A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHZ and four Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz. The GPU tagged with the SoC will be an Adreno 512. The SoC is also said to feature support for UFS 2.1 storage and have two LPDDR4 RAMs clocked at 1866MHz.

The smartphones which are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 660 are Vivo X9S Plus, Oppo R11, which appeared at the GFXBench last month, Nokia 7 and Nokia 8, and also the Xiaomi Mi Max 2.
