Xiaomi has recently been on an update roll. The company updated a slew of devices to Android 11. The brand has now started rolling out the Android 11 update to Xiaomi Redmi 9. To recall, the brand had rolled out the MIUI 12 update to the device last year in November. The Android 11 update for Xiaomi Redmi 9 is rolling out in various regions. Xiaomi has already released Android 11 version for several other devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite, Redmi K30 4G and, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro.
The brand is rolling out the update for the Global and EEA variants. Xiaomi Redmi 9’s update for Android 11 comes as firmware version V18.104.22.168.RJCMIXM for the Global variant and V22.214.171.124.RJCEUXM for the EEA variant, respectively. The update weighs 2.1GB and 2.3GB, respectively. This update brings the May 2021 Security patch to the device. However, this update isn’t based on MIUI 12.5. Apart from the updated security patch, the Android 11 update also brings improvements to the Xiaomi Cloud.

The update is currently being rolled out in batches. Xiaomi Redmi 9 users can manually check for the Android 11 update by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. For those unaware, Xiaomi Redmi 9 launched in India as Redmi 9 Prime. Indian roll-out will begin sometime in the future.
