Android Q is simply Android 10, end of desserts based nomenclature

Android is the most loved and widely discussed Operating System for smartphones. Every year, Google comes with a new version of it with improved functionalities and features. Android lovers eagerly look forward for all the new changes, but the naming tradition has become more of a fun part of the release each year. For a decade, Android releases were based off of tasty treats, or desserts, in alphabetical order. Now, Google has officially ended the long held tradition by branding the Android Q simply as Android 10.android q is simply android 10, end of desserts based nomenclature

Yes, it’s official. Going forth, our beloved Android versions won’t have a dessert as surname. Instead, the new release of Android will simply use the version number. Google thinks the change would help them make release names simpler and more intuitive for the global community as a whole.

On its Google post, Google highlights how the Android naming based on desserts have made the common folks who are not deep into the technology confused. The search-engine goes on by stating an example of Android L and R which were not distinguishable when spoken in some languages. An excerpt from the post goes; it’s even harder for new Android users, who are unfamiliar with the naming convention, to understand if their phone is running the latest version. We also know that pies are not a dessert in some places, and that marshmallows, while delicious, are not a popular treat in many parts of the world.

New Brand Logo and Color

Apart from the major shift in nomenclature, Android is getting a new brand logo as well. The redesigned Android logo is simple, with material touch embracing the future. Google says the new logo and brand color are more modern and of accessible look.android q is simply android 10, end of desserts based nomenclature

The design of the logo is inspired from the most recognizable non-human member of the community, the Android robot. As per Google, the robot belongs to everyone in the community, and has long been a symbol of the fun and curiosity at the heart of Android. Now, with the revision it has a special place in the logo. A minor adjustment in the color of logo is done with the shift to black from the green considering the people with visual impairments to whom mostly the green is hard to perceive.

So that’s it, the 10th edition of Android comes with new features, revised branding, color and much more. Are you guys excited about the future of Android? Do let us know down in the comments.
