Nexus 6P and 5X will deprive of this new Android O feature

Google’s upcoming Android version, the Android O is nearing its release. The impending version of Android will bring a host of new and useful features for the Android users. Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X fall in the list of devices that are eligible for the Android O update. Being Nexus devices, both handsets enjoy the advantage of Android updates in the first place (just after Pixel and Pixel XL).

Nexus users will definitely be able to enjoy Android O as and when released officially. However, Google has recently indicated that the Nexus 6P and 5X will not support aptX Bluetooth streaming, a new built-in feature offered by Android O. In response to query “Bug: aptX Selectable Bluetooth Audio Codec Not Working” raised by a user on the company’s Issue Tracker website, a Google developer reported the bug as ‘Won’t Fix’, with the below explanation:

Status: Won’t Fix (Intended Behavior)

Unfortunately support for aptX and aptX HD are not supported on Nexus 6p and Nexus 5X – only on newer devices.

If you are not aware, aptX is a series of streaming protocols owned by Qualcomm which aims at providing better audio over Bluetooth. However, it is not clear whether Google is unwilling to add support for aptX, or is it technically not feasible?

We expect Google to provide an explanation as to why aptX feature won’t work on Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
